Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward (Footsteps of Evolution)

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.
― George Moore

Footsteps of Evolution

I ascended the plate of a mountain, so God could hear my words the loudest.

My knees shivered in the stream of a valley, while I beckoned for the Spirit to baptize me.

Overlooking the edge of a plateau, I realized the depths of my smallness.

Watching prairie dogs nuzzle on the Great Plains, demonstrated that love is best reflected in action.

I descended the slope of a hill, to deliver thank you cards and Baby Blue Eyes annuals to the ghosts of my past.

While exploring from these glorious landforms, I noticed many footsteps etched in soil.  One set of footsteps was larger than the others.  In hot pursuit I followed these footsteps until exhaustion subdued my legs.  Continuously, I prayed for strength until sleep closed my eyes.  The next morning I found myself home and unaware of how I arrived there. Careful inspection of each room revealed the only body present was my own. Upon opening my front door the impression of two large footprints covered in soil marked my patio.

10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Daily Prompt: Ready, Set Go (Little Girl Who Fed a Bird)

Help others

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Little Girl Who Fed a Bird

Everyone needs a helping hand.
To prop them up when they are unable to stand.

Everyone needs a kind phrase.
Bringing consolation to a spirit overpowered by fatigue.

Everyone needs a tight embrace.
A reason to stop and realize that life is not a race.

Every time we help another.
We cultivate the Kingdom of the Creator.

35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers you did it to me.’ (Matthew 25:35-40)

Weekly Photo Challenge: Illumination (Hail the King)

Merry Christmas

“Christmas in Bethlehem. The ancient dream: a cold, clear night made brilliant by a glorious star, the smell of incense, shepherds and wise men falling to their knees in adoration of the sweet baby, the incarnation of perfect love.”
– Lucinda Franks

Hail the King

Amber light of God reflected by the sun.

Mimicked by man under the creamy glow of a waxen moon.

Simulacrum of light bottled into bulbs, illuminated when turned “on.”

Incandescent lights continuing where the sun sunsets leave off.

Earth greets the arrival of the divine King, Jesus Christ.

With decorated trees, colored lights and faith.

2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:1-2)

Putting Christ In Christmas

Blessed Mother and Jesus Child

“When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives.” ― Ezra Taft Benson

Our worries about finding the right gifts, cards and decorations are all just vanity. Give from the heart and if they don’t like it, they can “regift” it. We are supposed to be preparing the arrival of Jesus and that should be at the top of our wish list.

“6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Repentance At the Shore

“The heavens will not be filled with those who never made mistakes but with those who recognized that they were off course and who corrected their ways to get back in the light of gospel truth.”
― Dieter F. Uchtdorf

At sunset, my weary body rests on the ground.

Fingers stretched gripping sand.

Bronzed skin glistens under the citrus sun.

As the sun mingles with the horizon, anguish sets in.

Inhaling salty air into my lungs.

Distracts my eyes from trailing tears to my lips.

“I am sorry,” are three words I am too proud to say.

Apologies echo throughout my dreams until night turns into day.

Guilt, sorrow, fear and confusion I leave at the shore.

Sea foam washes my crown and I emerge pure.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”  (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Measure Your Words

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” ― Abraham Lincoln

An argumentative person is reduced to a raging ego. Before venting, carefully measure your words before they exit your mouth. You may save yourself from arguing with someone who actually agrees with you.

“Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.” (Proverbs 14:29)

Empty Wallet, Full Heart

Lie Still In Peace

“Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.”
― Lao Tzu

An empty wallet rests in my pocket.
No money to pay bills, but when the moon rises, soundly I lay my head to rest.

Don’t need couture makeup, clothes, purses and shoes.
Confidence and a luminous tan are my signature accessories.

I have the one thing money can’t buy it’s called happiness.
Filled with peace, my mind is impenetrable to stress.

Simplicity brings contentment.
For I already have all I want.

“11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (Philippians 4:11-12)

Birthday Epiphany: Vol. 30

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” ― Dr. Seuss

Love is the dominant force in my life. Each year God brings awesome people in my life, to give me the essential support to confidently hike the narrow path. Obstacles may sprout in my trail, but also will roses.

“4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Our True Image

The Face of Jesus

“A life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all. No man can serve two masters. Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire.“
― Thomas Merton

Mirrors and eyes only provide reflections. If we ever were able to view our true image, we would see Jesus Christ.

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

Face Prayer
Heavenly Father, I embrace your grace this day,
So that I might not:
Think of another,
Speak to another or
Touch another,
without first looking for
Your Face in the other.
I ask all this through
Jesus Christ:
God Incarnate,
God with Skin,
God made Poor,
God with a Face. Amen!
― Jim Pinto, Jr.

The Voice Inside

The Holy Spirit

“Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way.”
― Florence Scovel Shinn

The inaudible voice within navigating you through right and wrong is the Holy Spirit speaking from the heart; preparing your transition from mortal to eternal life.

“But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand.” (Job 32:8)
